Nova's Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System

Over the past five years, we have diligently been working to implement our Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system, with full implementation expected to be achieved by spring of 2011. With the addition of our EMR system, we hope to improve each patient's visit from start to finish.

Nova's EMR system allows us to provide a more integrative, efficient and higher quality standard of care to our patients. It allows the medical providers to quickly access your patient and family histories, ensuring that no areas of your health are being overlooked. Information from outside providers including specialists and emergency room medics is easily downloaded into your medical record for our providers to review and discuss with you. This capability allows for a more advanced level of patient care, as everything our providers should know about your health is readily accessible and only a click away. When dealing with paper charts, important documentation can easily be misplaced and illegible handwriting can result in important medical information being overlooked. The uniformity and workflows established with EMR eliminates these potential issues.

EMR also allows our medical providers to review lab results with you at the time of your visit. Because lab results are automatically populated into your medical note for the day, you will leave our office with instant feedback. Our providers will have the opportunity to explain the test results with you and discuss topics including additional testing, abnormal levels, and suggestions for reducing abnormal levels including visits with our dietitian, naturopathic physician, acupuncturist, or a medical spa provider.

Additionally, the new EMR system gives us the ability to check your medications for compatibility. This lessens the risk of potential adverse reactions resulting from allergies or undesirable combinations of medications. EMR also allows us to e-prescribe, sending your prescription directly to your pharmacy of choice electronically. These features allow for a more accurate and streamlined prescription process for the patient.
